Usually, the extended family, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, joins in the celebrations. However, this year, the Ranakas have opted for a more intimate celebration with immediate family members, including parents Nonceba and Kgotlaesele Ranaka, siblings Manaka, Dineo, Mpumi, Ziggy, Ranaka, Mzingisi, and the grandchildren.

Manaka shared insights with ZiMoja, saying, ‘We didn’t plan too much this year. We never really plan until the last minute. Before having kids, there used to be a routine of gathering at a relative’s or our house, where everyone contributed food and drinks. As we got older and busier with kids, we prefer keeping it to immediate family.’

Despite the united front the Ranaka sisters often present, they, like any siblings, face their share of challenges. Mpumi revealed that they went through a year without talking, but the bond between them prevailed.

In November, Manaka and Mpumi disclosed their year-long silence, emphasizing that the resolution was significant for them. Manaka expressed, ‘This time of the year is about relaxation and family bonding, but also making extra money through gigs and appearances. It’s a great time to do this when we’re in a happy place and on speaking terms.’

Reflecting on the challenges, Manaka added, ‘It would have been sad for me to get married without my sisters there.’ The sisters have recently reunited at their father’s 80th birthday lunch, acknowledging that there are still unresolved issues but emphasizing their love for each other as siblings. They admit that being in the limelight while dealing with personal issues is challenging.
