AKA Secures 7 Nominations at SAMAs 2023

For the 2023 South African Music Awards (SAMAs), the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes topped the list of nominated artists.

Leading with 7 categories, the legendary rapper bagged these nominations with his posthumous album Mass Country.

Below are the categories in which he was nominated for SAMAs;

• Male Artist of the Year
• Album of the Year
• Best Engineered Album
• Best Hip-Hop Album
• Best Collaboration (Lemons (Lemonade) featuring Nasty C)
• Best Collaboration (Company featuring Kiddominant)
• Best Produced Music Video (for Lemons (Lemonade) feat. Nasty C.

Ntokozo Mdluli, also known as K.O, has garnered 6 SAMAs nominations, closely following behind.

In February this year, an unknown gunman cut the rap legend’s life short. Since his demise, the police force has been making slow progress with the investigation of the murder case.

Recently, the cops confirmed that the gun that was used to kill AKA was found.

“The 3am phone calls [from AKA when he was alive] to listen to Mass Country seems to be paying off,” AKA’s parents Lynn and Tony Forbes told Sowetan in a joined statement.

“Mass Country was much bigger than Kiernan. He left his last life story in music for the world to enjoy and having his talent recognised like this is because of the Megacy [AKA’s fan base] and everyone that has supported his career and continues to enjoy his music. Thank you to the SAMAs team for this recognition.”
