DJ Obza Leaves Open Mic Productions
Yet another artist has parted ways with the controversial label, Open Mic Productions.
This departure follows the exits of their legal representative and Managing Director (MD), Nkateko Maluleke, artist manager Brendon Maseko, and three other staff members months ago.
Makhadzi, Prince Benza, Master KG, and Nomcebo had earlier left the label to pursue their solo careers, signaling a period of turbulence for Open Mic Productions.
This time, DJ Obza, a rising star, has publicly announced his departure from the label to embark on his journey as an independent artist.
According to a source close to the DJ, he decided to leave due to a sense of being “neglected” by the label. The source revealed, “He felt that throughout his years with the label, he wasn’t receiving much attention.
The focus seemed to be predominantly on the more established artists.” The source further noted that despite releasing albums, none of them gained significant traction, leaving DJ Obza in a constant state of hustle compared to other more successful stars.
DJ Obza Left Honorably
However, DJ Obza’s official statement paints a different picture. He expressed gratitude for his time at the label, stating,
“After three studio albums and some wonderful personal and creative relationships, it is time to depart from my former record label. It has been an honour to be part of such an exceptional team.”
Despite the positive tone in his statement, the insider suggests to Zimoja, “Of course, he would say that. He doesn’t want to burn his bridges, but we all know he was not happy.” DJ Obza acknowledged the invaluable experiences gained during his tenure and described his years with the label as rewarding. He emphasized that it was time for him to explore the path of an independent artist.
Despite attempts to seek comments, Open Mic Productions Music Executive, Lionel Jamela, remained unavailable for a response.”
