“I’m Gonna Remember 2023 Forever” -Tyla
South African singer Tyla, kicked off 2024 with a stunning live performance on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest in the US.
Taking the stage at New York’s iconic Times Square, the SA sensation wowed an audience of hundreds of thousands, while over 1 billion viewers tuned in globally. The 21-year-old Johannesburg native shared the spotlight with renowned performers like LL Cool J, Megan Thee Stallion, and Post Malone.
Dressed in an elegant all-white ensemble reminiscent of a snow princess, Tyla showcased her Bacardi-inspired dance moves. She performed a medley of her hits, including On and On, Truth or Dare, and Water.
Accompanied by eight backup dancers and a confetti shower from the sky, Tyla’s performance marked a spectacular start to the new year.
Following the performance, American host Ryan Seacrest interviewed Tyla, who expressed gratitude for the transformative year.
“This year literarily changed my whole life, so 2023, I’m gonna remember this year forever and I just feel like this is a warm-up for next year, I’m taking it next year” she said
Also, Seacrest handed her a red scarf when she complained of the cold New York weather.
Tyla, experiencing the New York cold, shared her excitement about the city’s grand New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Notably, Tyla ended the year with Water recognized as one of former US President Barack Obama’s favorite songs of 2023. Billboard Magazine’s Heran Mamo also named Water as her top favorite African song of the year.
