Published

Following the unexplained explosion, a mysterious blast occurred late on Wednesday evening in Johannesburg. A body was found on a section of the Bree Street Thursday morning. Witnesses reported feeling the ground shake then hearing a loud bang moments before the explosion. Cars were overturned, minivans as well leaving pedestrians scared and running for their lives.

Panya Lesufi, the premier of Johannesburg’s Gauteng province confirmed to the media that 48 people were injured as a result of the mysterious blast. The body of the said man was discovered by investigators. The premier said that the cause of the explosion is yet to be revealed. Despite the thorough preliminary investigation that was conducted.

The area has remained close since since Thursday as on-lookers have been pursued by police officers. ”It’s about keeping this scene sterile,” said Elias Mawela, the provincial police commissioner. “Should we have a secondary explosion, then we may lose lives.”

There were speculations that the explosion was due to underground gas pipes. People told stories of perceiving a strong chemical odor just before the blast. The city’s privatized gas company, Egoli Gas, claim it is “unlikely”. This isn’t the case as customers still received their gas supplies uninterrupted.

The city’s mayor assured the reporters that homeless people who sleep in the area have been moved to a shelter.
