Kelly Khumalo Linked as Mastermind Behind Senzo Meyiwa’s Murder

In the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, the accused, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, have implicated the late Senzo Meyiwa’s then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, as the person who allegedly ordered the killing of the former soccer star.

Brigadier Bongani Gininda, the lead investigator in the case, revealed this information at the Pretoria High Court.

Eyewitnesses present on the night of Meyiwa’s fatal shooting at Kelly’s Vosloorus home reported that two intruders entered, demanding cellphones and money. A scuffle ensued, leading to Meyiwa’s fatal injury.

During the trial within a trial regarding the admissibility of confession statements, Gininda informed the court. He stated that Ntanzi was identified as the taller intruder who entered the house after the third accused, Mthobisi Mncube.

Ntanzi allegedly confessed to his involvement, implicating Kelly Khumalo as the person who ordered the killing.

This isn’t the first mention of Kelly in the trial. Cellphone records previously revealed calls between a number associated with accused 5, Fisojuhle Ntuli. These calls were made to a number registered under Kelly’s name. The calls occurred on two occasions before Meyiwa’s October 2014 murder.

Gininda disclosed that Sibiya’s confession indicated he was outside when Meyiwa was killed, despite naming Marco Buthelezi as the perpetrator. The investigation pointed to accused 3, Mncube, as the one who pulled the trigger.

Photos from Mncube’s phone matched the description of the assailant, showing him wearing dreadlocks and carrying a gun during the incident. All the accused in the case are Zulu-speaking and known to each other, according to Gininda. Photos of the murder weapon used in Meyiwa’s killing were also found on Mncube’s phone.
