Mama Awards Reportedly Postponed
The MTV Africa Music Awards(MAMAs), which was initially billed to be held in February 2021 in Uganda has reportedly been postponed. The award show was set to make a triumphant return this year after a break since 2016.
“MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards. We will keep fans updated as we have more news,” MTV wrote in a statement.
At the moment it remains uncertain as to why the awards have been shifted.
Grammy-winning producer, DJ Khaled was recently declared openly as the official host of the awards. “MTV has always been a great partner so I jumped at the opportunity to host this year’s Mamas,” he said. “I can’t wait to celebrate the incredible music that comes out of Africa, which has inspired me throughout my career.”
Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events for ViacomCBS Media Networks said with DJ Khaled having been announced as the host, they were certain that the event was going to be a success.

for the first time in MTV history, he said. “With Grammy Award-winning powerhouse DJ Khaled at the helm, we’re certain this will be an incredible, must-see global event.” He said
The nominee’s list featured talented African musicians including the likes of Burna Boy, Busiswa, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Innoss’B, Kabza De Small, John Blaq, Master KG, Suspect 95, Sheebah, Soraia Ramos, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, and WizKid .
