Mbongeni Ngema's Family Dismiss Second Wife's Claims

Ngema, known for his roles as a musician, and producer, was involved in a car crash leading to his demise.

Before the funeral, Mbongeni Ngema’s brother, Nhlanhla Ngema, spoke to the Daily News. He stated that the family was unaware of any marriage between Ngema and Moncho. According to Nhlanhla, they had only heard about Moncho being involved in managing Ngema’s work.

“We heard about the letter said to have been written by a woman, but we are not aware of her marriage to my brother except hearing that she was his manager. For now, we are focusing on burying my brother, so we will deal with other things after the funeral,” explained Nhlanhla.

Moncho, claiming to be Mbongeni Ngema’s customary wife, had previously threatened legal action to prevent the government from organizing Ngema’s burial. She also asserted she was four months pregnant with Ngema’s child.

Moncho had written a letter to the office of KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube. Dube-Ncube had arranged Ngema’s provincial funeral at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban.

The letter was addressed to various offices, including the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. It was also directed towards KZN provincial government officials and Ngema’s brother, Nhlanhla Ngema.

When asked about a response from Dube-Ncube, Moncho mentioned to Sunday World that she was unwell. Hence, she had not had the opportunity to check or find out.
