Senzo Meyiwa's Murder Confirmed to be a Planned Assassin

The lead investigator, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, revealed that the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper’s murder was not a failed robbery, as previously claimed by the state, but a planned assassination.

According to Gininda, who continued his testimony at the Pretoria High Court on Monday, 22 January, after a nearly two-month break, the evidence indicates that the murder of Senzo Meyiwa was a contracted hit.

He stated that the planning and coordination of the crime took place at a Vosloorus hostel, involving five suspects.

Accused number one, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, and accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi were the focus of Gininda’s testimony. Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu represented them.

The investigator presented the affidavit used to obtain a warrant of arrest for the two accused in October 2020, seeking to establish the admissibility of their alleged confessions.

Gininda outlined each accused’s role and their connection to the murder in the affidavit. According to witness statements, Sibiya reportedly boasted about his involvement in the crime to associates in KwaZulu-Natal.

Circumstantial evidence further linked him to the murder. This included remarks made at a family gathering in Vosloorus immediately after the incident. Sibiya also allegedly confessed formally to an independent officer on May 30, 2020.

Ntanzi’s connection to the murder was established through certified statements and an identikit, identifying him as the person wearing a hoodie. Mncube’s co-accused reportedly identified him as the gunman, matching the suspect description with dreadlocks, big eyes, and gold teeth.

Additionally, Maphisa confessed to a private person about his involvement. Meanwhile, they have linked Ntuli to the getaway car, a silver-grey Polo.
