Skoropo Calls Out Limpopo Boy for Song Theft
Choreographer and musician Skoropo, whose real name is Blessing Khumalo, accuses Makhadzi’s former dancer Limpopo Boy, real name Matome Thoka, of stealing their song “Woza Summer.”
Expressing his disappointment, Skoropo reveals he never expected his former friend to betray him. “We used to dance for Makhadzi, live together, and share everything. For him to go and steal from me is disappointing,” he says. The artist narrates hearing the song on the radio, where the DJ announced it as “Limpopo Boy featuring Queen Lolly, Skoropo, and AirBurn Sounds.”
He insists, “I am not a feature in the song. I am the main artist.” He asserts that the song was supposed to be “Skoropo and Limpopo Boy featuring Queen Lolly and AirBurn Sounds.”
Skoropo Confronted Him Before
This isn’t the first time they’ve had a dispute over a song, according to Skoropo. “The same thing happened in 2021, and I don’t want to talk about it. He always plays the victim.”
When the dancer confronted Limpopo Boy about the song, he became dismissive. “Limpopo Boy is so arrogant. When we confronted him, he started fighting us and said we wanted to steal his shine and his connections. That is not possible,” he says. “He needs to come out and say sorry.”
The song is featured in an upcoming Netflix production titled “Dark Beauty,” starring Limpopo Boy. Skoropo notes that this implies Limpopo Boy will have a significant share of the royalties. However, there is confusion as other names like Prince Benza and Makhadzi are now associated with the song. Skoropo also emphasizes, “No one is jealous of the guy, but what he did was wrong, and he needs to be called out.”
Nonetheless, Limpopo Boy has been traveling parts of Europe teaching African Dance styles to dance students, and Skoropo wishes him well. However, he still considers Limpopo Boy’s actions wrong. Skoropo, running his dance school, African Devine Dancers, with over 100 students in Cosmo City, Johannesburg, remains undeterred.
“I love what I do, and I will never get discouraged by things like these. The dance academy is doing well, and this year we have big plans of working with award ceremonies and big events.” Limpopo Boy declined to comment on the song matter, citing ongoing classes.
