Sonia Booth Wins Defamation Lawsuit Against Her Ex's Girlfriend

A while ago, the Soweto-born public figure accused Mthombeni-Moller of having an adulterous affair with her husband, retired soccer star Matthew Booth.

She sought to halt defamatory statements from Sonia and demanded an apology for social media posts accusing her of ruining Sonia’s marriage. However, the case faced dismissal.

The court ordered Mthombeni-Moller to cover Booth’s legal fees exceeding R75k. Despite the ruling, Mthombeni-Moller contested the taxation, leading to a scheduled hearing in May.

Sonia expressed frustration, highlighting the financial burden of lawsuits. However, she celebrated the legal victory amid public scrutiny over her reaction to the alleged affair.

In a social media post, Sonia criticized Mthombeni-Moller as “nothing but air” with “zero substance and no money for lawsuits.” Despite both parties denying the affair initially, the scandal unfolded publicly on social media when Sonia exposed it earlier this year.

Matthew and Mthombeni-Moller initially denied the affair. However, they later confirmed their relationship through shared photos of them together at events and traveling.

Mthombeni-Moller’s divorce from her lecturer husband was finalized in November. Recently, the couple appeared happy at a friend’s wedding, holding hands and all smiles.

Despite Sonia’s legal victory, she remains focused on facts, asserting that Mthombeni-Moller’s ego prevents her from admitting defeat and hinting at a humbling experience in the future.

In response, Mthombeni-Moller stated that the dismissal was due to a lack of urgency, not merit. She also mentioned that the costs order is being addressed through the legal taxation process.
