Actor Kini Shandu, known for his role in ‘Umkhokha,’ is facing a growing backlash on social media after expressing controversial views on women.

‘Umkhokha’ Canceled After Kini Shandu’s Misogynistic Post

The producers of the telenovela, Word of Mouth Production, are now under pressure. This pressure is to dismiss Shandu following the misogynistic remarks he made two weeks ago.

Viewers of the Mzansi Magic show are threatening to stop watching unless Shandu is removed from the cast.

Shandu, a former co-host of Daily Thetha, stirred controversy when he took to his Facebook account to share his opinions on women. He referred to those who have children out of wedlock as “umdlambila” or naughty women.

In response to the public outrage, Shandu issued an apology on social media. He claimed that his comments were intended as a joke and did not reflect his true beliefs. However, the apology did little to quell the criticism.

Multichoice, the broadcasting company associated with the show, distanced itself from Shandu’s views, stating that his apology seemed desperate. While acknowledging that Shandu’s views don’t align with the channel’s stance, Multichoice recommended direct inquiries to Shandu himself.

Facing disciplinary action from the Sebenza Women Awards’ committee, Shandu, despite being a co-founder, will no longer represent the event.

Moreover, the awards have lost two major sponsors. This is because BMW and Oceans Mall withdrew their support due to the negative publicity surrounding Shandu’s misogynistic post.

The actor’s troubles seem to be escalating, impacting not only his career but also the projects and events he is associated with.
