“Where Was I?” Somizi Gave a Heartbreaking Speech At Zahara’s Memorial
Just like the rest of South Africa, media personality Somizi is heartbroken by the death of late singer Zahara.
Today at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg, her family, friends, and co-stars came together for a memorial service.
One of the guests, Somizi gave an excellent and heartfelt speech. The all-around entertainer started by blaming himself and other people present for not standing by the fallen artist when she needed them.
“When she was going through rough times, where was Somizi? Nowhere. Where were we? Nowhere. When we could have helped, we carried on with our lives. And we need to eternally apologize to her, we are sorry, we can do better. What we have learned from Zahara’s story is to do better. Stop making fun of other people’s downfalls. Here I am now standing as if I was there throughout, but I wasn’t there throughout.”
Somizi went further by chastizing folks for mocking people during hard times
“So, the biggest lesson I’ve learned and I hope everyone in this room learned, is don’t ever laugh or make a joke at someone else’s downfall. If you can’t help, shut up. If you can’t contribute positively, shut up. The same people on social media keep on saying ‘We’ve lost an icon’ Did you treat her like an icon? I don’t think so. did you treat her like you were scared of losing her? I don’t think so.”
He ended by beseeching everyone to change and do better
“But we can change, we can do better. Moving forward anyone who’s listening to this, let’s do better. In the name of Zahara, let’s do better”
