Babes Wodumo Accused of Owing R1,200
Gqom sensation Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, is under scrutiny for allegedly failing to compensate her makeup artist, Pearl Mhlongo (22) of Pearlisiwe Make-Up and Skincare from Durban, a modest amount of R1,200 for a job done in 2021.
Recently obtained conversations with Zimoja reveal promises made by Babes Wodumo’s sister and manager, Nondumiso Simelane, to settle the payment through a pay wallet. Mhlongo explains,
“I was introduced to Babes Wodumo through her friend, who happened to be my client. She invited me to do her makeup, and after that, Babes requested my services regularly, paying in cash. However, the issue arose when she failed to pay me the promised amount of R1,200 for a job in 2021.”
Mhlongo cites the reason for non-payment on the day of service as Babes Wodumo lacking transportation to a nearby mall. Despite promises to pay the next day, Mhlongo claims that the 29-year-old has consistently given excuses. Expressing frustration, Mhlongo emphasizes her intent is not to harm Babes Wodumo’s reputation but to receive fair compensation for her services.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the artist proved unsuccessful as she hung up when questioned about the outstanding debt. Nondumiso Simelane, Wodumo’s sister and manager, denies the debt, asserting that the late Sthembile, the former personal assistant, is responsible. Nondumiso challenges the accuser to provide evidence of communication from 2021 and expresses frustration with what she perceives as baseless threats and insults.
Amid the controversy, Nondumiso defends Babes Wodumo, stating that the accusations are an attempt to capitalize on her recent positive performance and emphasize the need for proof before settling any alleged debt.
