Chicco Twala's Court Case Postponed Again

This sentiment arises as the Randburg Magistrates Court once again postponed his assault case today. Twala was arrested in May 2022 for allegedly assaulting two City Power employees whom he mistook for cable thieves.

Despite being released on R2,000 bail, Twala’s case has been postponed 13 times. The latest delay, until February 16, is to allow the prosecution to evaluate the health condition of the state’s witness.

Twala’s lawyer, Lesley Sedibe, requested the case to be struck off the roll. This request followed the state witness’s failure to appear, with the lawyer citing a lack of medical records to support claims of an eye infection, injury, or operation.

Expressing frustration, Twala told ZiMoja that there was no case against him, alleging bias due to his celebrity status. He highlighted disparities in how cases are handled, citing a recent incident where someone’s case was struck off the roll in front of him.

Twala emphasized the financial strain of legal proceedings. He expressed doubts that any meaningful discussion would occur in the next court appearance.

In the meantime, the state witness is expected to explain nex t month why he needed three months for his reported eye infection to heal.

A source close to the producer expressed concern that the ongoing case might jeopardize his involvement in telenovelas. Twala is currently producing soundtracks for Sibongile & The Dlaminis on Mzansi Wethu and My Brother’s Keeper on Mzansi Magic, respectively.
