Chinese Businessman Sentenced To 18 years For Critiquing The President

Chinese millionaire, Ren Zhiqiang sentenced to 18 years in prison for critiquing the president; he called the president a ‘clown’.

Ren Zhiqiang is a Chinese former real estate tycoon, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He is also a blogger on Sina Weibo with more than 37 million followers. He is nicknamed “Big Cannon Ren” because he is known for his outspoken criticism of the Party.

Ren Zhiqiang got an 18 year sentencing for corruption, bribery, and embezzlement of public funds. According to the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate Court website, he was also fined 4.2million yuan.

He was taken to court because of his choice of words while critiquing the president over the poor management of the coronavirus. And in his critique, he said;

“…Standing there was not an emperor standing there exhibiting his ‘new clothes’, but a clown stripped naked who insisted on continuing being emperor”.

“…The reality shown by this epidemic is that the party defends its own interests, the government officials defend their own interests, and the monarch only defends the status and interests of the core.”

This is not the first time Ren has gotten himself in trouble for his words. In 2016 he gained himself probation for critiquing the government policies.
