The River 5 Full Story, Cast, Plot Summary & Teasers: “The River” unfolds the tale of Khanyisa Diamond, a mine owner committed to safeguarding her family and upholding her opulent lifestyle. Lindiwe, wedded to provincial police commissioner Zweli Dikana, is the mother of Andile and Mbali Dikana and the stepmother of Nomonde Dikana. Their residence is a grand mansion in Pretoria East, South Africa.
In the impoverished township of Refilwe, home to Khanyisa Diamonds, dwell financially struggling residents, many of whom are employed at the mine. The Mokoena family, comprised of Malefu Mokoena and her children—Thuso, Dimpho, and Itumeleng—resides in Refilwe. Tumi, unbeknownst to all but Malefu, is adopted, discovered as a baby by her late adoptive father, Thato Mokoena, near a river.

“The River is a South African TV show made by Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon. It’s a show created by M-Net and produced by Tshedza Pictures for the 1Magic channel on DStv. You can also watch it on Showmax, Naspers’ streaming service. Starting in 2019, they began showing reruns on Mzansi Magic every weekday at 19:00 and older reruns on Mzansi Wethu at 20:00 since 2021.
In 2021, Sindi Dlathu, who plays a leading role, became a co-executive producer for the fourth season. In November 2021, they announced a fifth season, which premiered on February 7, 2022. Later, they confirmed a sixth and final season, starting on February 6, 2023.
Season six features Sindi Dlathu, Presley Chweneyagae, Siyabonga Thwala, Tsholofelo Matshaba, Tinah Mnumzane, Bheki Mkhwane, and Brenda Mhlongo. The cast also includes Lunga Mofokeng, Lunathi Mampofu, Galaletsang Koffman, Matshepo Sekgopi, Thapelo Sebogodi, Tina Dlathu, Thapelo Ramotshehla, Siya Sepotokele, Chuck Shisane Wa Sekgobela, Linda Mtoba, Kagiso Rathebe, and Nokuthula Ledwaba.
The story is set in Pretoria, focusing on South Africa’s mining sector. A diamond discovery in the river between the poor township of Refilwe and the rich neighborhood of Silver Lakes goes from being a blessing to a curse.”

Presley Chweneyagae Career
Presley Chweneyagae, born in 1984, is a South African actor. He’s best known for his lead role in the film Tsotsi, which won the Academy Award for Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards.
Even though he had acted in plays and community theater projects before, Tsotsi marked his debut in feature films.
Chweneyagae has been part of various productions for North West Arts (now called the Mmabana Arts Foundation). He played Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and appeared in the play Cards at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.
His television acting journey began in 2000 with Orlando on SABC TV. In 2006, he took on the role of The Poet in the mini-series When We Were Black.

Hlomla Dandala Career
Hlomla Dandala is a South African actor, presenter, and director. You might recognize him from his TV roles like Derek Nyathi in Isidingo (1998-2001), the lead role in Jacob’s Cross, and hosting the reality dating show All You Need Is Love from 2002 to 2003.
In the SABC1 series End Game, he takes on the character Jet Hlatswayo, the Minister of the Environment caught in a political conspiracy. He’s also been in other series like Interrogation Room, Tsha Tsha, Gaz’lam, and the US daytime series Scout’s Safari on Discovery Kids and NBC.

Lawrence Maleka Career
Lawrence Maleka is a well-known South African actor and presenter. You might recognize him from hosting the Mzansi Magic reality competition series Clash of the Choirs South Africa, where he took over from Bonang Matheba for the third season in 2016.
Before that, Lawrence co-hosted the AfricaMagic Entertainment celebrity gossip show Star Gist from 2012 to 2014 alongside former Big Brother contestant Vimbai Mutinhiri.
