Early this morning, Zahara’s remains were received at her residence in Little Falls, Roodepoort. They were then transported to OR Tambo International Airport for the journey to the Eastern Cape.

As the late artist’s body arrived at her Roodepoort home, visibly distraught family members were seen tearfully witnessing the moment as her coffin was brought inside. Zahara’s mother, who flew in from the Eastern Cape, personally identified her before the final journey to her ancestral home. Family members had an opportunity to pay their respects and view her body ahead of the scheduled funeral next weekend.

Upon arrival at King Phalo Airport in East London, Eastern Cape Arts and Culture spokesperson Atule Joka confirmed that. The family and local artists were involved in the proceedings. Also, her church will lead the prayer proceedings.

Provincial Arts and Culture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe revealed plans for a provincial memorial service. The service is scheduled to take place in East London next Friday. Furthermore, MEC Kontsiwe expressed,

“Zahara’s passing is a profound loss not only to the Eastern Cape arts and culture sector but to the broader society. Her music will forever resonate in our hearts. Her guitar and angelic voice have left an enduring impact on South Africans.” The singer is set to be laid to rest on December 23 in her village of Phumlani.
