Zandie Stands With Kelly Amid Senzo Meyiwa’s Murder Trial

This week, singer and songwriter Kelly Khumalo found herself implicated in the death of Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot during a purported botched robbery at her mom’s home in Vosloorus in 2014.

Accused numbers one and two, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, made a statement in an affidavit. They named Kelly as the alleged person who hired a hitman to kill the footballer.

Currently standing trial are Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Ntuli. They were arrested in 2020. The court heard that Kelly had been trying to “get rid” of Senzo since 2013.

Despite the silence from Kelly herself on the court proceedings, her sister, Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, was present on the night of the incident. She expresses unwavering support.

Zandie reassures concerned well-wishers, saying, “I know your heart. Wherever Senzo is, he also knows your heart.”

Responding to those inquiring about Kelly’s well-being, Zandie shares with Zimoja,

“Don’t worry, she’s fine, and just like all of us, she wants the perpetrators to be brought to book, and they will be, sekuseduze (we are almost there).”

Zandie emphasizes that she can’t wait for the trial to conclude, adding, “This too shall pass. I cannot wait for this to end and for the real criminals to be put to book.” Despite the traumatic time for her family, Zandie expresses strength, saying,

“It has been tough, but we are strong because we know God is with us.”
