AKA Calls Out Government For Neglecting Artists During COVID-19 Pandemic… He’s Really PAINED!
AKA has called out the South African government on social media for neglecting performing artists during the coronavirus pandemic.
He took to Twitter to complain about the neglect stating that the government has not taken into consideration the music industry, who have been left with no income due to the seizing of their concerts and live performances. He stated, “The entire music industry has been left for dead by the government.”
In response to a tweep who questioned him on why he is concerned when he is a wealthy artist, he responded with, “Yah well, I’m down to my last million. So yeah I’m panicking.” AKA explained that if the government doesn’t do something serious, the arts will also be a casualty of the pandemic.
See his rant below.
What plan is there in place for the performing arts? Musicians, DJ’s and so forth? … https://t.co/909U1Axkam

All these people we call “OG’s” in the music industry are quiet as FUCK with regards to how to lead us during this pandemic. An absolute void of leadership. What is to become of our artists and their livelihoods?

Nonsense. Which OG’s are you talking about? I’m talking about the ones in HIGH POSITIONS in Government. HIGH POSITIONS in multi national companies. With numerous tenders. Enriching themselves. https://t.co/GeNNStHwOR

“The Governement doesn’t owe you anything” is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life. https://t.co/sMgKt4t3A0

There are so many more people who depend on the artist. Band members, videographers, photography, security, assistants, drivers to name a few … those are all JOBS, JOBS for actual people. https://t.co/mRcBBGHLoH

It’s worth at least having an in depth discussion with government to see what can be done. https://t.co/G7VrzIKRFf

Ok, so … 80% of this document refers to sports and guidelines pertaining to sports. Where is a CLEAR PLAN for the preservation of THE ARTS & those dependent on THE ARTS for their SURVIVAL? https://t.co/2mvWYJsBKN

You may visit your family at the casino or at the mall. You can also take a Taxi to your job that may be imaginary at this point in time. 🇿🇦

Understood. Now, in that interim period of national disaster … what will lets say, a singer(who uses auto tune btw) … tell his bank who demand car and house payments/ or tell staff who need salaries? https://t.co/A7OZIf12cT
