Tweeps take to the comments section of a heartbreaking tweet and talk deeply about the impact of GBV in the society.
GBV is one of the biggest problems threatening not just SA but the entire world right now. Before we dive in, let’s have a quick review of what GBV really entails. Gender-based violence (GBV) is violence that is directed at an individual.
It is generally based on his or her biological sex OR gender identity. It includes physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse. Threats, coercion, and economic or educational deprivation are involved, whether occurring in public or private life.
South Africa is waist-deep in GBV, and people are scared for their lives and well being. Women and children are extra cautious to avoid being violated, but it happens nonetheless. To avoid a misunderstanding, GBV isn’t only targetted at women and children; men also fall victim.
A tweep made a post based on the comment section of a Tiktok that asked what women would do if the earth were free of men for a day. The replies were shocking and heartbreaking. Tweeps started adding in their bits and pieces to it, and it turned into a full-on sad conversation. GBV is an unfortunate and scary problem that needs to end.
“saw a Tiktok that said, what would you do if there were no men on earth for 24 hours.. here was the comment section.”
