Australia secured a spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final. Defeating the Proteas in the semi-finals by three wickets. The Proteas posted a score of 212 all out, and Australia successfully chased the target of 213 runs.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Proteas captain Bvuma saw his top order dismissed by Australia’s bowlers in the initial 15 overs. The defeat, reminiscent of the 1999 semi-final, sets up an Australia vs. India final on November 19, 2023.

Back in South Africa, hopes for a final spot were dashed, sparking a flurry of reactions on social media. Fans shared their opinions, with some questioning the squad selection, especially the inclusion of Bvuma, reportedly playing with an injury.

Interestingly, others drew connections to the Springboks’ success in rugby, emphasizing their historic back-to-back World Cup victories. The Springboks secured their place in history by becoming the second team to achieve this feat.

Given the previous public holiday granted by President Cyril Ramaphosa after the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup triumph, many expressed a desire for a similar celebration.

Amidst the disappointment, several comments credited Miller for averting what could have been an embarrassing Cricket World Cup defeat for the Proteas.
